High School Gymnastics
Trials to Provincial Championships
February 19, 2006
The Powell River Gymnastics Society was pleased with their showing at the recent
area trials to BC High School Sports gymnastics trials meet. The top four athletes
in each category will move on to BC High School Sports Provincial Championships
in Victoria on March 8-10, 2006.
This year, three
students from Oceanview School and five from Brooks attended the meet on Feb.
19th in Campbell River. Powell River had athletes from every category present.
The Level I team consisted of Jessie Beardmore, Alycia Venables, and Dev Percey.
Tessa Gould represented Level II and Courtney Craigen entered as a Level V competitor.
The Oceanview athletes, Carly Glover, Kierra Jones, and Kayla Raimondo stood
alone in the Level IV category for the north island zone.
Jessie Beardmore placed third all around and will be competing in Victoria.
Tessa Gould also made the cut with a third place standing. Courtney brought
up the 4th place in her category and worked through her injuries with a 1st
place on beam. Carly Glover had an impressive meet coming in first all around
against teammates Kierra and Kayla who came in second and third, respectively.
All girls will be a positive and inspirational force representing our local
schools at the BC School Sports Provincials!
Coaches Allison
Burt, Sara Robinson, Alison Hickey and Joyce Percey were impressed with the
effort and performance from all participants.
